The Eight Heroes of Bakin’sHakkenden

This series shows scenes from the kabuki play Satomi hakkenden, which was performed at the Ichimura Theater in the first month of 1852.  The series is listed as number 173 in Kuniyoshi by Basil William Robinson (Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 1961).  These prints are each about 14 by 10 inches (36 by 25 centimeters), a size known as ôban.
