The Life of Asakura

(Asakura kazuyo, 浅倉一代記)

This series shows scenes from the kabuki play Higashiyama Sakura sôshi (東山桜荘子, The Higashiyama Storybook) performed in the 8th month of 1851 at the Nakamura Theater.  It is not listed in Kuniyoshi by Basil William Robinson (Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 1961).  The prints are each about 14 by 10 inches (36 by 25 centimeters), a size known as ôban.
