A Collection of Pictures in Modern Style
(Imayô gakumen awase, 今様額面合)
Publisher: Izuzen
c. 1850
This series of uchiwa (non-folding fan) prints shows women with framed pictures. The term “modern style” refers to the pictures being framed ̶ a practice recently imported from the West. The series is not listed in Kuniyoshi by Basil William Robinson (Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 1961). |
